Two Staff Members Rewarded for Helping Australian Tourist Find Diamond Ring

Phan Thanh Trinh and Pham Nhu Dong, employees of the Son Tra Peninsula Management Board, were rewarded after helping an Australian tourist find a lost engagement ring on the beach.

On 4/8, Nguyen Duc Vu, head of the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang tourism beach management board, commended and rewarded Phan Thanh Trinh and Pham Nhu Dong for their kind act of helping a tourist recover a valuable item.

Trinh, 41, and Dong, 35, are members of Task Force 2, Beach Tourism Order Management Team.

Truong Thi Hong Hanh, director of Da Nang's Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, also praised the staff members' sense of responsibility and compassion, adding that the department would provide a suitable reward.

On the evening of July 31, Australian tourist Lein Riches posted on social media that his daughter had lost her diamond engagement ring while walking on Cua Dai beach in Da Nang. He returned to search the next morning but to no avail.

After learning about the incident via social media, on the morning of 1/8, Trinh and Dong traveled over 30 km from Da Nang to Cua Dai beach with specialized metal detectors to assist in the search. Since the tourist didn't remember the exact location where the ring was lost, the search was difficult. After an unsuccessful underwater search, Trinh and his colleague shifted their focus to the water's edge and discovered the ring buried almost half a meter deep in the sand.

Witnessing the entire search process, Lein Riches wept upon receiving the ring, hugging Trinh and calling him a "hero." The tourist explained that the ring was worth over 2,000 USD and held special meaning for his family. Trinh declined any monetary reward, accepting only the hug and heartfelt thanks.

Earlier, on 25/7, Trinh and his colleagues also helped two other tourists recover two lost iPhones (an iPhone 14 Pro and an iPhone 15) at My Khe beach.

Searching for lost property is a regular task for the Beach Tourism Order Management Team and the Rescue Team. In the first six months of 2025, the unit has returned 31 lost items, including 11 cases assisting foreign tourists, with one item valued at over 60 million VND.
