Uneven roads follow underground infrastructure work in Hanoi

Several Hanoi streets, including Nguyen Chi Thanh, De La Thanh, Hao Nam, Hoang Cau, and Dang Tien Dong, have uneven road surfaces following underground infrastructure projects. This poses safety risks and detracts from the city's appearance.

Dang Tien Dong Street in Dong Da District after excavation for power cables, communication lines, and drainage pipes. While the road surface has been restored, Hanoi Traffic Construction JSC (the company responsible for road maintenance in Hanoi) says the work is subpar, citing uneven and broken trench edges.

Loose gravel left behind during road restoration poses a hazard to passing vehicles and pedestrians. Some sections lack the final asphalt layer, resulting in an uneven surface.

On Hao Nam Street, near the Cat Linh elevated railway station, a 10-meter stretch of road remains without its asphalt layer. The exposed gravel makes the surface slippery and dusty.

A trench over 5 cm deep causes problems for low-riding motorbikes. Traffic Police Unit 3 has requested the construction company to address the issue, but no action has been taken.

Several roads have developed depressions after being dug up for construction and then resurfaced, creating noticeable dips compared to the older road surface.

At the Hoang Cau - Hao Nam - La Thanh intersection in O Cho Dua Ward, an unfilled trench nearly one meter wide and over 10 meters long remains.

A section of Giang Vo Street awaits resurfacing. While small, its location at the turn from De La Thanh Street forces many vehicles to swerve.

On the same stretch of road, several restored sections are higher than the original surface, creating further unevenness.

Hanoi Traffic Construction JSC also notes that road markings have not been repainted, even though the construction permit has expired.

De La Thanh Street, previously excavated for underground power cables, now shows signs of subsidence, creating difficulties for traffic.

The road restoration on Nguyen Chi Thanh Street in Lang Ward is also deemed inadequate, with uneven patching, uneven edges, and a bumpy surface.

Hanoi Traffic Construction JSC has issued official notices to the construction companies, demanding rectification. Regulations stipulate that companies carrying out infrastructure projects are responsible for restoring roads to their original condition, ensuring quality and consistency with urban architecture. Violations are subject to fines and mandatory re-construction.
