The following morning, 30/7, Multi-Task Team 2 (MTT2) from the PeaceTrees Vietnam project in Quang Binh province collaborated with the Quang Tri Provincial Military Command to handle the situation. After nearly two hours of carefully excavating the site, MTT2 reached the bomb.
The bomb, approximately 1.5 meters long and 273 mm in diameter, still had its detonator intact. Authorities scheduled the bomb's removal between 10:30 and 4 PM, during a period with no scheduled flight arrivals or departures. The bomb has been transported to an explosives storage facility pending destruction.
From 1954 to 1972, the Ben Hai River in Quang Tri served as a temporary demarcation line, dividing Vietnam. Consequently, Quang Tri province endured heavy bombing, resulting in 83% of its land being contaminated with unexploded ordnance.
