Vietnam - China navies conduct live-fire anti-piracy training

A gunner on ship 015 Tran Hung Dao practiced destroying targets with light weapons in a simulated scenario where a joint Vietnam - China naval force, while escorting maritime traffic, encountered pirates.

For the first time, the navies of the two nations conducted a live-fire anti-piracy drill using light weapons. The simulated scenario involved the joint patrol force escorting maritime traffic and ensuring security in international waters when they received reports of a pirate ship's appearance. The force issued warning signals, but the pirates persisted in attacking the escort vessel. Commanders from both squadrons then directed their teams to approach and neutralize the target.

Ships 015 Tran Hung Dao and 012 Ly Thai To are part of Vietnam's four-strong missile frigate squadron, which also includes 011 Dinh Tien Hoang and 016 Quang Trung. These vessels, commissioned in 2011 and 2018, are managed by Brigade 162, Naval Region 4.

Naval ships from both nations salute each other at sea after completing the joint patrol and training. The exercise featured close coordination and realistic scenario handling, ensuring absolute safety for personnel and equipment.

On the morning of 22/3, the squadron and the Vietnamese Navy delegation arrived at Cam Ranh Port (Khanh Hoa), concluding the defense exchange and joint patrol and training in the Gulf of Tonkin.

Beyond anti-piracy, the two navies also trained in: search and rescue, damage control, formation maneuvering, maritime escort, and light signal communication. Pictured here, the Vietnamese Navy approaches a simulated casualty during the search and rescue module.
