The Vietnam Register recently noticed small deposits of 10,000 VND into their bank account from various personal accounts, mostly without clear transaction details.
By cross-referencing vehicle registration numbers provided in some transactions, the Vietnam Register contacted several vehicle owners. These owners reported receiving calls announcing a change in inspection stickers and requesting a 10,000 VND payment per sticker to the agency's account for replacements.
The scammers also instructed vehicle owners to install a mobile app for personal information submission, supposedly for the sticker replacement process. Installing such apps puts vehicle owners at risk of fraud and financial loss.

The Vietnam Register clarified that it does not require inspection sticker replacements nor requests money transfers for such purposes. Vehicle owners are advised against transferring money based on calls or messages from unknown numbers and to avoid accessing suspicious links or installing apps impersonating the Vietnam Register to prevent fraud.
According to the Vietnam Register, this scam first appeared in 10/2024 and has recently resurfaced. The agency has requested inspection centers to increase awareness and warn vehicle owners about the scam.
