Woman rescued after 8-hour ordeal trapped in deep well

Huynh Thi Ut, 50, was rescued safely on the evening of 28/5 after falling into an abandoned well over 30 m deep while collecting scrap in Hoi Phu ward.

Around 19:40, residents exercising near the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Viet Xuan intersection in Hoi Phu ward heard cries for help from an abandoned well and alerted authorities.

The Gia Lai Provincial Police Fire Prevention, Fighting, and Rescue Department dispatched personnel and equipment to the scene. The well was nearly 30 m deep, with over one meter of water at the bottom.

Rescue forces accessed the bottom of the well, provided oxygen, and reassured Ut before using specialized equipment to bring her safely to the surface after about 30 minutes.

The victim resides in Group 2, Hoi Phu ward. According to Ut, she stepped on a glass sheet covering the well opening and fell in around 14:00 that day while collecting scrap in the area.

"Initially, I was very dizzy, then I tried to cling to the well wall to climb up, but I fell back down mid-climb," she recounted, adding that as darkness fell, the lack of light and difficulty breathing caused her to panic.

After receiving first aid at the scene, the victim was transferred to Gia Lai General Hospital. She was conscious but had multiple bruises on her body.
