Famous destinations disappoint tourists

Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Great Wall of China, and Disneyland Paris received low ratings from tourists due to overcrowding, high costs, or safety concerns, according to an analysis by Stasher.

Stasher, a UK-based luggage storage company, has released a list of popular global tourist attractions that visitors found most disappointing. The results are based on an analysis of 101 iconic attractions, compiled from Google reviews, TikTok engagement, travel distance, safety indices, and accommodation quality.

Below are the destinations with the lowest scores (out of 10 points):

Disneyland Paris, pictured here, ranked 8th with 4.9/10 points.

1. Hollywood Walk of Fame, US (2.67/10 points)

Located 38.1 km from Los Angeles International Airport, this street honoring entertainment legends was criticized for being dirty and unsafe. Visitors expressed disappointment, noting that beyond the celebrity stars embedded in the pavement, the area offered little unique appeal, despite the heavy foot traffic. Photo: Lonely Planet

2. Dead Sea, Jordan (3.51/10 points)

Despite its fame for unique floating experiences, the Dead Sea ranked second among the lowest-scoring destinations. Its remote location, 66 km from the airport, and a low safety index of 3.10 due to regional instability were significant drawbacks. Tourists also complained about poor infrastructure and high prices. 3. Grand Bazaar, Istanbul, Turkey (3.86/10 points)

This historic covered market received low ratings on Google due to overcrowding and aggressive pricing tactics, which caused stress for shoppers rather than allowing them to enjoy the cultural experience. Photo: Expedia

4. Great Wall of China, China (4.43/10 points)

This world wonder ranked fourth on the list of low-scoring attractions. Its considerable distance, over 60 km from the airport, and frequent tourist overcrowding often diminished the visitor experience. However, accommodation services around this area received a high score of 9.3. Photo: Go Away Travel

5. Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong (4.68/10 points)

While known for its skyline and famous light show, Victoria Harbour still received low ratings due to pollution and a lack of appealing amenities. Accommodation quality in this area also scored the lowest on the list, at 6.7. Photo: SCMP

6. Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Tasmania, Australia (4.8/10 points)

This museum is the closest to an airport on the list, at 25 km, yet it has a low safety index. High ticket prices and niche exhibits, including preserved cadavers, led to mixed reviews. Although its Google score reached 4.3/5 among a niche audience, its overall score was only 4.8. Photo: Arlis

7. Stonehenge, UK (4.85/10 points)

As one of the planet's most famous prehistoric sites, many visitors were disappointed by the high ticket prices, ranging from 32 to 35 USD per person. The average score on TikTok, with only about 3,440 likes, indicates its difficulty in attracting younger audiences. Jacob Wedderburn-Day, Stasher's founder, noted: "Popularity does not always equate to value for money. Inconvenient transport, overcrowding, or locations not meeting expectations are reasons these destinations lose points."

Stasher is the world's first luggage storage sharing platform, established in 2015 in London, UK. The company connects travelers with a network of local hotels and shops in over 1,000 cities globally for secure luggage storage. Stasher's rankings are compiled from data including Google Reviews, TikTok, national safety indices, and tourism infrastructure quality.

Stasher regularly publishes data-driven reports to evaluate tourist attractions, aiming to help travelers avoid "tourist traps" or poor experiences.
