Canadian authorities announced on 9/6 that Geoffrey Wall, 59, from Barrie, Ontario, was accused of serving as a commercial passenger aircraft captain from 2009 to 2025 using fraudulent documents. Police determined Wall operated over 900 domestic and international flights during this period.
Wall allegedly falsified his resume to deceive regulatory authorities and Air Canada, the country's largest national airline. While Geoffrey possessed many valid certifications, he lacked the most crucial license required to pilot commercial passenger aircraft. To obtain this certificate, captains must pass rigorous written examinations.

Air Canada confirmed the incident and Wall's immediate suspension. "Immediately after Air Canada discovered this, the individual was suspended, and the airline reported the incident to Transport Canada," the airline stated. Air Canada affirmed that passenger safety was never compromised during these years, emphasizing that pilots must participate in and pass competency training sessions every six months.
The airline stated it took the former captain's issue "seriously" and conducted a comprehensive review of its remaining pilots, finding no further misconduct. The unlicensed pilot was arrested on charges related to fraud and aviation safety violations but was released on bail pending further legal proceedings. During his tenure as a captain using fake documents, he earned approximately 2,1 million USD.

Media has not yet been able to contact Geoffrey Wall or his lawyer. The airline declined to provide further details to ensure transparent and accurate legal proceedings. Despite the fraud going undetected for many years, Minister of Transport Steve MacKinnon asserted that Canada's system for detecting similar issues "operates effectively." "I am very pleased that we were able to detect this issue and address it," he said.
