Mai Xuan Thang, Chairman of the Hai Phong Tourism Association, stated that entering its third year, the VnExpress Marathon is now seen as an annual landmark for the city. From approximately 11,000 athletes in the first season in 2023 to nearly 14,000 expected participants this year, the race has expanded beyond a mere sporting competition.

“The VnExpress Marathon helps Hai Phong gain wider recognition as a dynamic, friendly city among both domestic and international running communities. Moreover, the event boosts year-end tourism, from accommodation and cuisine to experiential services,” Thang said.
According to the Chairman of the Hai Phong Tourism Association, the event's three-year journey has helped shape the city's image as a community sports destination, while also affirming its capability to organize large-scale events professionally and safely.
“Many athletes not only compete but also stay to experience the local cuisine, culture, and island scenery,” he noted.
To welcome 14,000 athletes, the Hai Phong Tourism Association urged member businesses to elevate service standards and publicize prices. Concurrently, the Association collaborates with departments and sectors to provide information on accommodation, dining, and transportation. It encourages the creation of specialized products and packages for athletes and their families, while also promoting the message, “Hai Phong, a runner-friendly destination.”

“The Association's goal is for every athlete visiting Hai Phong to have a complete, safe, and memorable experience,” Thang emphasized.
The Hai Phong Tourism Association identifies sports tourism as a strategic direction for the coming years. The city will continue to support national and international sports events, developing tourism products linked to its coastal, island, and natural advantages such as running, cycling, open-water swimming, and trekking, aiming to build a sustainable event ecosystem.
“Sports tourism can become a new growth driver, helping Hai Phong evolve into a city of events, a desirable place to live and visit,” Thang stated.
