General Secretary and President receives Lev Tolstoy International Peace Prize

General Secretary and President To Lam received the Lev Tolstoy International Peace Prize for his contributions to strengthening peace and cooperation among nations.

During his state visit to Russia, General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse attended the Lev Tolstoy International Peace Prize ceremony at the Kremlin on the evening of 9/9. Russian President Vladimir Putin, State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, and Federal Council Chairwoman Valentina Matvienko also participated in the event, according to TTXVN.

Valery Gergiev, People's Artist of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the Award Council, presented the 2026 Lev Tolstoy International Peace Prize to General Secretary and President To Lam. This recognized his contributions to consolidating peace, enhancing cooperation and understanding between peoples, promoting justice, respecting international law, and spreading Vietnam's peace-loving tradition, humanism, and spirit of dialogue to the world.

General Secretary and President To Lam stated that the award not only acknowledged his personal efforts but also affirmed Vietnam's peace-loving tradition, independent and self-reliant foreign policy of friendship, cooperation, and development. It also highlighted Vietnam's contributions to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and globally.

General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed that Vietnam will continue to work with the international community to promote dialogue, enhance understanding and trust, and resolve disagreements and disputes peacefully, based on the United Nations Charter and international law, for a stable and sustainably developing world.

President Putin highly valued the decision to award the Lev Tolstoy International Peace Prize to General Secretary and President To Lam. The Russian leader stated that the award recognizes the General Secretary and President's contributions to strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between Russia and Vietnam.

The Lev Tolstoy International Peace Prize is a Russian-initiated international award. It is presented to individuals or organizations with outstanding contributions to peace, security, cooperation, and understanding among nations.

From 2023 to 2024, the first award was given to the African Union. In 2025, the award was presented to the Presidents of three countries: Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
