Vietnam and Laos established diplomatic relations on 5/9/1962. In 2/2019, both sides agreed to elevate their ties from a "traditional friendship" to a "great friendship".
Bilateral two-way trade turnover in the first three months of 2025 exceeded 980 million USD, marking a 105,5% increase compared to the same period last year. Both nations continue to strive towards raising two-way trade turnover to 5 billion USD in the next two to three years.
Vietnam currently has 267 investment projects in Laos, with a total registered capital of 5,63 billion USD. Accumulated implemented capital has reached approximately 2,8 billion USD. Investment cooperation shows positive changes, with registered investment in Laos reaching 191,1 million USD in 2024.
Approximately 14,050 Lao students are currently studying at over 170 educational institutions in Vietnam. Cooperation between localities, especially those sharing a border, continues to strengthen, becoming more concrete, in-depth, and comprehensive across all sectors, ensuring security and safety in the border regions of both countries.
