Iran claims attack on Amazon data center in Bahrain

Iran's revolutionary guard announces missile launch targeting Amazon's data center in Bahrain, claiming to have "destroyed" the facility.

"In the second wave of the 'Promised Victory 24' operation, the air force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on 20/7 launched a series of missiles at the US company Amazon's data center in Bahrain, destroying the facility", the IRGC announced on 21/7.

According to the IRGC, the attack was in retaliation for US airstrikes targeting the Darkhovin nuclear power plant, which is under construction in southern Iran, and several residential areas.

Bahraini officials, the US military, and Amazon have not commented on the information.

The IRGC had previously warned it would target 17 US companies operating in the region in retaliation. The list includes major technology companies such as: Apple, Microsoft, Google, Meta, IBM, HP, Intel, Tesla, Boeing, and financial institution JP Morgan.

In April, Iran claimed attacks on facilities belonging to two US businesses: Amazon's cloud computing center in Bahrain and Oracle in Dubai city, United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, Amazon and the US government did not confirm this information.

On 21/7, the IRGC stated they are targeting air defense systems, radars, and administrative buildings of US forces in Kuwait and Bahrain. "With this destruction of radars, the enemy should prepare for more intense and decisive missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attack operations", the IRGC warned.

Following the deaths of at least three soldiers last week, the US launched a new series of airstrikes against Iran, aiming to "further weaken the military capabilities it uses to attack ships" in the Strait of Hormuz.

President Donald Trump warned Iran would "pay a heavy price" for each US soldier killed. Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian commented that the conflict "has become a full-scale war".

A senior Iranian official stated on 20/7 that the country had received proposals from mediators for a 10-day ceasefire. This proposal aims to salvage a memorandum signed in June, designed to pave the way for a long-term agreement to end the current conflict.

Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni asked Pakistan to continue its mediation role. Momeni traveled to Pakistan's capital, Islamabad, for discussions.
