Vietnam and Thailand maintain strong relations, characterized by high political trust between their leaders and peoples. This trust forms a solid foundation, crucial for fostering deeper and more reliable ties at all levels and across all channels.
A prominent pillar of cooperation has been in economy, trade, and investment. Thailand stands as Vietnam's largest trading partner within ASEAN. Bilateral trade turnover reached over 22 billion USD in 2025, marking an increase of approximately 10% compared to the previous year.
Beyond economic ties, defense and security cooperation has become increasingly substantive and profound. Tourism and people-to-people exchanges also represent a bright spot in the relationship. Currently, over 20 pairs of localities have established cooperative relationships through memoranda of understanding (MOU).

On the international stage, both nations cooperate closely in regional and international forums, particularly within ASEAN, the United Nations, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), and the Mekong Sub-region Cooperation Mechanism.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s direct participation in the ASEAN Future Forum demonstrates Thailand’s high regard not only for its bilateral relationship with Vietnam but also for ASEAN’s initiatives. These initiatives aim to promote community building, solidarity, and dialogue to identify solutions that enable ASEAN to successfully confront and address current challenges.
