Russian President Vladimir Putin recently extended greetings to Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian for Nowruz, the Persian New Year. The Kremlin stated that Putin wished the Iranian people success in overcoming challenges, emphasizing Moscow's steadfast role as a loyal friend and reliable partner to Tehran during difficult times.
This affirmation comes amid close ties between Tehran and Moscow, a relationship that has drawn international scrutiny. The US and European countries have accused Iran of supporting Russia in the Ukraine conflict. Conversely, Russia has criticized what it called "dangerous and irresponsible attacks" by the US and Israel on Iran, arguing these actions risk destabilizing the entire Middle East.

The depth of this cooperation has been a subject of reports. The Washington Post reported earlier this month that Russia was providing intelligence to Iran regarding the location of US military assets in the Middle East, including warships and aircraft. However, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff stated on 10/3 that Moscow denied sharing intelligence with Tehran concerning the Middle East conflict, a denial Washington reportedly accepts.
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in an interview published on 14/3, described Russia and China as "strategic partners" for Iran. When asked about intelligence and military support from these nations, he affirmed ongoing close cooperation, including military aspects, without detailing specifics. He highlighted the strong political, economic, and military relations Iran maintains with both countries.
