Scene of the pub fire in Thailand

Fire erupts near stage, rapidly engulfing Na Ladprao pub in Bangkok, destroying everything and killing at least 27 people.

A devastating fire engulfed the Na Ladprao pub in northern Bangkok, Thailand, on 13/7, resulting in at least 27 fatalities and 63 injuries. The blaze, which erupted near the stage around 0:00, rapidly spread to the ceiling, producing thick smoke that quickly enveloped the entire venue.

The Thailand Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported that firefighters brought the blaze under control within about half an hour. However, upon their arrival, the fire had already engulfed the entire pub. Suriyachai Rawiwan, head of the Bangkok Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, noted, "When we entered to search, tables and chairs blocked pathways everywhere, and the heat was intense."

The incident claimed the lives of 9 men and 18 women. Approximately 12 bodies were discovered in the restrooms, while some victims were found near the emergency exits. As the fire broke out, many attempted to flee through the exits. However, likely due to poor visibility or obstructions, most ran into the restrooms, where they perished.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt told reporters, "The fire spread rapidly. Smoke was likely the main cause of the many deaths. We have not yet determined how many people were inside at the time of the fire, but it was probably very crowded."

A musician performing at the pub recounted seeing smoke emanating from a circuit breaker near the stage just before a power outage. A subsequent explosion filled the venue with dense smoke. Lao tourist Kan Kutirat, an eyewitness, described hearing "many screams from inside, everything was absolute chaos."

According to the pub's Facebook page, the venue featured live music, a stage, two bars, and a kitchen. It had a capacity of over 300 people and four emergency exits. The pub's interior was severely damaged, with furniture charred and items inside completely destroyed by the fire.

Victims' mobile phones were collected at the scene, and their bodies were temporarily placed under a pedestrian overpass before being transported by ambulances.

Police forensic officers are examining the fire scene, and authorities are investigating the cause of the incident. Officials from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration were also working outside the pub after the blaze was contained. So far, authorities have identified 6 victims.

Police cars and ambulances at the scene. The smell of burning plastic still permeated the area hours after the fire broke out, while most of the pub's windows were shattered.

Rescue personnel rested after containing the flames.

Relatives of the victims speak with police. Authorities have so far identified 6 victims.
