The accident occurred this afternoon near Makkasan station on Asok-Din Daeng road, Huai Khwang district in Bangkok, involving a freight train, a bus on route 206, and several other vehicles. At least 8 fatalities have been confirmed, and 25 individuals sustained injuries.
Video footage from the scene captured the bus positioned on the railway tracks moments before the train's impact. The train then dragged the bus, causing it to catch fire. Rescue teams discovered 8 bodies inside the bus after the blaze was brought under control.
Witnesses reported seeing the railway barrier appear to malfunction prior to the collision. As the bus was dragged, it also struck several nearby cars and motorbikes. The vehicle was engulfed in flames within minutes, accompanied by continuous explosions. Medical personnel provided first aid to the injured and transported them to nearby hospitals.
Thai authorities have not yet released the official cause of the incident but have pledged to provide more information soon. Thailand's Deputy Minister of Transport Kittikan Chomduang Jaruworapolkul, Bangkok Mayor, and the director of the bus company were present at the scene to oversee the response.
