On 3/1, the spokesperson expressed Vietnam's concern over the situation in Venezuela, following a US raid on the capital Caracas. The operation led to the arrest of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, who were then taken to New York for trial on drug-related charges.
Vietnam called on all parties to exercise restraint, resolve disputes and disagreements based on international law, and respect the United Nations Charter. This includes the principle of respecting national sovereignty and refraining from the use or threat of force in international relations.
Venezuelan officials reported that at least 100 people died and about 100 were injured during the US raid. Interim president Delcy Rodriguez announced on 6/1 that Venezuela would observe a 7-day national mourning period to commemorate the victims.
