During a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on 23/7, on the sidelines of the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM-59) in Manila, Philippines, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung urged the US to swiftly conclude its investigation under Section 301. He emphasized that the conclusion should fully recognize Vietnam's significant efforts in intellectual property protection, aligning with the US's stated support for a strong, independent, self-reliant, and prosperous Vietnam.

Minister Le Hoai Trung also reiterated Vietnam's commitment to working with the US to finalize negotiations for a reciprocal, fair, and balanced trade agreement. He expressed confidence that such an agreement would serve as a key driver and foundation for a new, more effective, and stable phase of bilateral cooperation. He proposed that both sides maintain positive, constructive, and goodwill exchanges, addressing remaining differences based on a comprehensive, long-term view of bilateral relations and ensuring the legitimate interests of each country, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) initiated this investigation on 29/5, under Section 301 of the US Trade Act of 1974. The inquiry focuses on specific issues related to the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights in Vietnam.

Vietnam has consistently demonstrated substantial efforts in intellectual property protection. These initiatives include enhancing its regulatory framework, increasing public awareness, and strengthening international cooperation with organizations like the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the US, and other nations. Vietnam remains committed to combating and strictly addressing all intellectual property infringements.

During his discussion with Mr. Rubio, Minister Le Hoai Trung highlighted Vietnam's commitment to fostering a favorable environment for US businesses. He affirmed that Vietnam prioritizes and facilitates long-term, high-quality US investment and operations within the country. The Minister noted that Vietnam is actively reviewing and modernizing its legal system to ensure transparency and consistency, further improving the investment and business climate, and enhancing market access.

Secretary of State Rubio affirmed that economic and trade cooperation remains a crucial pillar of bilateral relations. He stressed the importance of continuous close dialogue between the two sides. Mr. Rubio expressed his hope for Vietnam and the US to swiftly achieve a high-standard, reciprocal, fair, and balanced trade agreement, which would generate additional economic opportunities, jobs, and mutual benefits.

Minister Le Hoai Trung and Secretary of State Rubio agreed on the necessity of maintaining the pace of defense and security cooperation. This cooperation should align with each nation's specific needs, aspirations, and the prevailing practical circumstances.
