Vietnamese cargo ship sinks in East Sea, 45 rescued

The Khoi Nguyen 18, carrying 62 crew members, sank while operating in severe weather conditions in the East Sea, with at least 45 people rescued.

Vietnamese authorities launched immediate search and rescue efforts for the Khoi Nguyen 18 cargo ship after it sank in the East Sea, quickly coordinating with Chinese forces and nearby vessels, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated today. The spokesperson was responding to a VnExpress query about the incident.

As of noon on 26/7, combined forces successfully rescued 45 crew members.

Search operations for the remaining individuals are ongoing, with authorities and fishing vessels actively involved. Officials are prepared to provide timely rescue and support. Additionally, agencies have ensured families of those involved receive prompt updates on the search and rescue efforts and subsequent steps to safely return citizens to shore.

Ms. Hang expressed gratitude to Chinese authorities for their swift assistance in Vietnam's search and rescue mission. She conveyed hope for continued close cooperation between both sides to locate the remaining individuals.
