A recent traffic incident captured on a dashcam highlights an aggressive maneuver at a toll booth. The vehicle equipped with the dashcam was slowing down, maintaining a safe distance from the car ahead as it approached the toll plaza. Suddenly, a white sedan from the right accelerated, forcing its way in front.
Recognizing the risk of a collision as the lane narrowed, the dashcam driver braked to a stop. The white sedan then pulled ahead and stopped in the middle of the toll booth, preventing the vehicles behind from moving forward. The driver of the sedan exited their vehicle and exchanged words with the dashcam driver.
Safe driving practices dictate that vehicles approaching a toll booth must reduce speed and queue in an orderly fashion, without contention. Stopping a vehicle directly before a toll booth poses a significant safety risk to both the driver and other road users. This action also leads to localized traffic congestion, as it prevents following vehicles from passing through the toll plaza.
According to Decree 168/2024, stopping or parking on a highway in unauthorized areas carries a fine of 12-14 million VND and a deduction of 6 points from the driver's license.
In contrast, the penalty for improper lane changes on a highway is a fine of 4-6 million VND and a deduction of 2 points from the driver's license.
