Driver fined 19 million VND for asking traffic police, 'do you know who I am?'

A Hanoi oto driver who failed to comply with traffic police orders during a suspected violation has been fined 19 million VND and had four license points deducted.

On the afternoon of 29/5, a working group from Road Traffic Police Team No. 5, while on duty on National Highway 1B in Phuc Loi ward, observed an oto showing signs of traffic safety violations. When officers signaled the vehicle to stop for inspection, the driver continued driving, disregarding the traffic police's request. The passenger also made inappropriate remarks to the officers, notably asking, "Do you know who I am?"

The incident quickly spread among the driving community because the passenger, Khuc Cao The, is a driving instructor with a large following on social media platforms. In the video, Mr. The was seen instructing the driver to follow his directions.

Following the incident, the Hanoi Public Security Traffic Police Department verified and clarified the details. At the police station, Mr. The admitted his remarks were inappropriate and apologized to the traffic police officers.

Regarding the driver, officers issued a citation for failing to obey a traffic controller's signal. For this violation, the driver was fined 19 million VND and had four driver's license points deducted. Road Traffic Police Team No. 5 stated it is coordinating with relevant units to verify and clarify other related actions for legal processing.

Hanoi Police advise citizens to strictly comply with officers' orders and behave civilly in traffic. They also affirm that all feedback related to the operations of officers will be received, verified, and handled objectively and according to regulations.
