Near an intersection, as the traffic light showed its final green seconds, a dump truck sped into the right lane to overtake. This maneuver forced a woman on a motorbike to the roadside, running over her. The woman lay motionless; her injuries were not immediately clear.
In populated areas, vehicles must adhere to speed limits and overtaking/lane change regulations. Dump trucks, with their blind spots and large inertia, pose a high risk in collisions, necessitating cautious driving. Car Awards experts noted the motorcyclist was in the correct lane, at a moderate speed, and did not cut in front of the truck. The accident resulted from the dump truck driver's unobserved lane change.
Under decree 168/2024 concerning penalties for road traffic violations, the dump truck driver faces a fine ranging from 20-22 million dong and revocation of their driver's license. Depending on the victim's injuries, authorities may also press criminal charges against the driver.
To enhance safety, motorcyclists should always maintain awareness of their surroundings, checking both ahead and behind using their rearview mirrors to confirm no vehicles are approaching.
