Volkswagen ID. ERA 9X: EREV vehicle launching in Vietnam, priced under 3 billion VND

The ID. ERA 9X is a full-size SUV powered by electricity, either through external charging or a 1.5-liter gasoline engine acting as a generator, with deliveries anticipated in late October.

Volkswagen's distributor in Vietnam confirmed the launch of the ID. ERA 9X, imported from China. Pre-orders for the single variant began in early August, with an estimated price below 3 billion VND.

The Volkswagen ID. ERA 9X is a product of the Volkswagen and SAIC joint venture in China. It is positioned as a full-size SUV, offering a 6-seater configuration.

Regarding dimensions, the ERA 9X measures 5,207 mm in length, 1,997 mm in width, and 1,810 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,070 mm. These dimensions are comparable to luxury full-size SUVs such as the BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS, as well as mainstream models like the VinFast VF 9, and are slightly smaller than the Lynk & Co 900.

Upon its release in Vietnam, the ID. ERA 9X will be the largest SUV offered by the brand. Currently, the German automaker's biggest SUV in Vietnam is the Teramont Pro, with dimensions of 5,158 mm in length, 1,991 mm in width, 1,788 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,980 mm.

Design influences from the world's largest automotive market are evident in the Volkswagen ID. ERA 9X. The vehicle features a boxy design with rounded corners and minimalist body surfaces, a styling commonly seen on full-size SUVs in the Chinese market.

The ID. ERA 9X's philosophy centers on comfort and interior spaciousness. The first two rows feature "Zero Gravity" executive-style seats, upholstered in Nappa leather, and equipped with functions such as heating, cooling, massage, and leg rests. The VIP seat on the right side of the second row can recline fully to form a bed.

The vehicle includes 251-color ambient interior lighting, 3-zone automatic climate control with air purification. A 7.6-liter refrigerator, integrated into the front center armrest, offers adjustable hot and cold settings from 0-50 degrees C. This refrigerator can hold approximately 6-8 water bottles.

Both the first and second rows feature individual entertainment screens. The front cabin has two 15.6-inch displays, while the second row offers a 21.4-inch screen with 3K resolution. The sound system is a 27-speaker surround sound setup. In terms of passenger amenities, the Volkswagen ID. ERA 9X rivals, and in some aspects surpasses, luxury competitors in the full-size SUV segment.

The vehicle's safety system is among the most comprehensive in the full-size SUV segment. Beyond advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), it includes a 540-degree camera system and sensors utilizing ultrasonic waves, laser, and LIDAR for object detection.

The Volkswagen ID. ERA 9X is an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV). Electric motors fully drive the vehicle, while a 1.5-liter gasoline engine functions solely as a generator. The vehicle's battery pack has a capacity of 65.2 kWh, providing an electric-only range of 406 km (CLTC standard). The combined driving range, with the 1.5-liter engine's assistance, extends to 1,651 km.

This Volkswagen model features all-wheel drive, rear-wheel steering, eight driving modes, and a safe wading depth of 700 mm. The combined motor output reaches 510 horsepower and 660 Nm of torque. Built on an 800 V battery platform, it supports fast charging from 10% to 80% in approximately 16 minutes.

Priced under 3 billion VND and offering full-size dimensions, the Volkswagen ID. ERA 9X directly targets competitors like the Lynk & Co 900 (3.069 billion VND). The ID. ERA 9X serves as the German brand's first fully electric-driven model in Vietnam, appealing to customers who prioritize new technological experiences and comfort over the driving dynamics of the brand's previous gasoline models.
