Most cars and motorcycles currently operating in Vietnam can use E10 biofuel without engine modification, particularly models manufactured in the past 15 to 20 years.
Manufacturers advise owners of some older vehicles, which use carburetors or have fuel systems with materials incompatible with higher ethanol content, to continue using E5 gasoline for durability.
E10 offers several advantages: it helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, boosts octane ratings, and lessens reliance on fossil fuels. However, ethanol is hygroscopic and contains less energy than mineral gasoline, which can lead to a slight increase in fuel consumption under certain operating conditions.
To mitigate E10's disadvantages, users should perform regular fuel system maintenance, maintain correct tire pressure, avoid storing fuel for extended periods in the tank, and prioritize refueling at large, reputable stations to ensure fuel quality.
