Mazda CX-5 2026: Refined exterior, streamlined interior

The CX-5 2026 features an updated exterior with a new light cluster and grille, alongside a streamlined interior boasting a minimalist layout and a large central screen.

The Mazda CX-5 2026 marks the third generation of the best-selling C-segment crossover. The Japanese automaker introduced it globally in summer 2025, with plans for international market sales in 2026.

The CX-5 2026 measures 4,690 x 1,860 x 1,695 mm (length x width x height). Compared to the previous generation, its wheelbase increases by 75 mm, overall length by 140 mm, width by 20 mm, and height by 10-35 mm, depending on the version. These changes significantly expand cabin space, improving luggage capacity and rear legroom.

The CX-5 2026 adopts the new Kodo design language, highlighted by stacked headlights. A larger grille, combined with gloss black details, creates a commanding presence. These updates give the new CX-5 a more modern front fascia.

The rear of the CX-5 2026 features a clean design, with taillights inspired by its larger sibling, the CX-90. The traditional logo in the center has been replaced by the "MAZDA" lettering stretched across the tailgate. The rear bumper combines two-tone black and gloss plastic, complemented by symmetrically placed dual exhaust pipes.

The luggage compartment is more spacious, thanks to a 50 mm increase in depth and a 25 mm increase in height compared to the previous model. The load-in height has also been lowered by 13 mm.

The cockpit features a minimalist style with fewer buttons, complemented by supportive leather seats with prominent stitching. The front cabin offers more space due to the increased wheelbase, ensuring a comfortable seating position for both the driver and passengers.

The cockpit is designed with a modern aesthetic, featuring a floating 15,6-inch central screen. Vehicle controls are integrated into this touchscreen, eliminating physical buttons.

A new three-spoke steering wheel showcases minimalist MAZDA lettering. The control clusters on both sides are flatter and more streamlined. Behind the steering wheel is a camera cluster for the driver attention monitoring system.

The 10,25-inch digital driver display provides advanced driving assistance information, including detailed displays of advanced driver-assistance systems (lane-keeping assist, radar cruise control), navigation prompts, calls, and media. The screen also allows for customizable minimalist display modes, with interface switching directly via steering wheel buttons.

The infotainment system uses a Google platform, supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This allows direct access to Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Play Store without needing a phone connection. Function keys for climate control, media, and navigation are fixed at the bottom edge of the screen.

The gear selector area has been simplified, no longer featuring the rotary knob and physical infotainment control buttons of the previous generation. Instead, it now includes only the electronic parking brake, an auto hold activation button, and wireless charging.

The rear seats offer more space due to the increased overall length and wheelbase. Dedicated rear air vents are positioned on the back of the center console, along with seat heating activation buttons and two USB-C charging ports.

The 2026 version offers two engine options: a SkyActivG 2.5, producing 187 horsepower and 252 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, a mild hybrid powertrain option is available, utilizing an e-SkyActiv 2.5 engine that supports quicker acceleration, reduced throttle lag, and lower noise.

The CX-5 2026 is expected to be available in the Vietnam market in november 2026. Its price and origin remain undisclosed. Thaco states that it will continue to offer both the current CX-5 and the new CX-5 when the latter is released.
