MG's three development strategies in Vietnam

MG Vietnam appoints new general director in May, outlines product diversification, dealer network expansion, and localization goals.

SAIC Motor Vietnam, the official distributor of MG vehicles, announced the appointment of Tang Donghui as its new general director, replacing his predecessor, Lu Minjie.

The automaker stated that this senior personnel change aligns with SAIC Motor's long-term development strategy in Southeast Asia. This move aims to strengthen its position, boost sales, and expand the brand experience in Vietnam. The company has set its second development phase to begin in 2026, with plans to introduce local assembly.

"Vietnam is a key strategic market for SAIC Motor in Southeast Asia, and we are committed to long-term partnership with domestic customers," stated Tang Donghui, the new general director of SAIC Motor Vietnam. "We will continue to diversify our product offerings, introduce advanced vehicle lines, and enhance 3S (Sales, Service, Spare parts) after-sales service standards to build trust with Vietnamese users."

Accordingly, the company has set three key focus areas for the upcoming period, commencing in May. The first is product diversification, involving the introduction of new vehicle lines. These include hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), and battery electric vehicles (BEV), alongside traditional internal combustion engine models. SAIC Motor Vietnam indicated that SUV models will be a primary focus in its upcoming plans.

Regarding its dealer network, MG will collaborate with partners to standardize processes, improve after-sales capabilities, and optimize the genuine spare parts supply system. Finally, the company also aims for domestic vehicle assembly by evaluating the feasibility of projects for strategic product lines.

SAIC Motor Vietnam is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, exclusively distributing MG vehicles in Vietnam.
