Omoda 4 debuts in Southeast Asia, set for Vietnam launch in 2027

Omoda's first electric vehicle, the O4, features AI virtual assistant technology in its cockpit and will be assembled and sold in Vietnam starting in 2027.

Omoda & Jaecoo (O&J), a sub-brand of China's Chery Group, launched its Omoda 4 EV B-segment crossover in Indonesia on 27/7. Indonesia is the first Southeast Asian market for the vehicle. The Omoda 4, also known as O4, previously had its global debut at the Beijing Auto Show in late April. O&J chose Indonesia due to the country's highest pure electric vehicle sales within the region for the brand.

According to O&J Vietnam representatives, the Omoda 4 will be assembled at the Geleximco - Chery joint venture factory in Hung Yen and is slated for sale in 2027. Upon its entry into the Vietnamese market, the Omoda O4 will compete with rivals such as the Toyota Corolla Cross, Peugeot 2008, and BYD Atto 3.

The O4 features a new design language, dubbed Cyber Mecha by the manufacturer, characterized by sharp, distinctive lines. The vehicle boasts a drag coefficient of 0,292 cd. Its youthful design includes a layered X-shaped front light cluster, a prominent character line extending to the rear, inverted lightning-bolt-style LED taillights, 18-inch two-tone wheels, and a large rear spoiler for enhanced aerodynamics.

The O4 measures 4.420 mm in length, 1.860 mm in width, and 1.570 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2.700 mm. These dimensions are slightly larger than its "sibling", the Jaecoo J5, which measures 4.380 x 1.860 x 1.650 mm with a 2.620 mm wheelbase.

Additional specifications include a ground clearance of 190 mm, a luggage compartment capacity of up to 1.126 liters (with the rear seats folded), 38 storage compartments in the cabin, and an unladen weight of 1.883 kg. The vehicle is equipped with 18-inch two-tone 5-spoke alloy wheels and Giti Control P10 tires sized 215/55.

The Omoda 4 is powered by a motor producing 218 horsepower and 275 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 7,1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 170 km/h.

A 65,05 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, supplied by CATL, provides a range of 553 km according to NEDC standards (approximately 470 km WLTP) on a full charge. The DC fast charging system supports a maximum power of 119 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 20% to 80% in 22 minutes.

The O4 is equipped with an AI cockpit digital system, enabling user interaction through voice communication. This system allows users to converse with the car as a friend, controlling features such as temperature adjustment, navigation, saving habits, and scheduling.

The O4 features a 13,2-inch vertical infotainment touchscreen with 2.5K resolution, powered by a Snapdragon 8155 chip, and an 8,88-inch digital instrument cluster. Other conveniences include 50W wireless charging, an 8-speaker sound system, a panoramic sunroof, and an electric tailgate.

The advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) integrates 18 safety features, including adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.

In addition to the battery electric vehicle (BEV) version, the O4 series also offers internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) options in select international markets.
