Toyota confirms the Highlander has returned, and it is completely different from before.
A new teaser revealed the new SUV's logo one day before its official global debut, scheduled for 9:30 AM on 11/2.
The Japanese company states the 2027 Highlander features modern lines, a sleek design, an electric powertrain, and a spacious three-row cabin, offering comfort for the entire family.

The video clearly shows the Highlander lettering on what appears to be the rear door, beneath which are the acronyms BEV (battery electric vehicle) and AWD (all-wheel drive). This indicates the next-generation SUV uses an electric powertrain, potentially with two motors.
The 2027 Highlander will be Toyota's first three-row electric SUV, positioned above the bZ4X. It is expected to play a significant role in Toyota's cautious electric vehicle (EV) deployment strategy in the US. Toyota has not yet released detailed specifications, but the electric Highlander will likely prioritize spacious interior room and daily utility over performance.
Reports suggest the electric Highlander will be produced in the US and designed specifically for North American buyers, addressing the demand for large electric SUVs.

Notably, Toyota is abandoning the bZ designation for a new electric vehicle, opting instead to revive a nameplate already familiar in the global market.
This trend is seen with other brands, including Volkswagen, which is bringing back familiar names like Polo and Tiguan for upcoming electric models.
It appears that convincing consumers to buy a familiar product, such as the Highlander nameplate, is easier than generating interest for an entirely new brand, even if the product itself bears little relation to its original version.
