According to a statement on 24/3, FedEx launched the service through a partnership with OneRail, a last-mile delivery coordination platform. This collaboration allows FedEx customers to access a network of over 1,000 carriers across the US. SameDay Local also accommodates bulky, oversized, and specialized orders.
OneRail's platform offers flexible API integration and utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to automate carrier assignments and optimize routes, improving operational efficiency.
The service provides near real-time tracking for both pickup and delivery, including estimated times of arrival (ETA) and order completion confirmations. It also features proactive monitoring and 24/7 support to minimize disruptions and address delays during transit.
This initiative aligns with FedEx's strategy to boost volume, enhance service quality, and reduce delivery times across multiple regions. The company recently reported its most profitable peak season to date in the latest quarter.
This push for faster delivery comes as logistics and retail companies increasingly compete on speed to meet evolving consumer demands.
This competitive landscape has seen other major players making strides in fast delivery. Amazon previously introduced one-hour and three-hour delivery services in the US for over 90,000 products, including groceries and consumer goods. Walmart expanded its three-hour delivery, while Dollar General enhanced same-day options. Target recently announced plans for next-day delivery in select markets.
