MSC Air Cargo has launched a new cargo route connecting Milan, Italy, with Shanghai, China, beginning 3/3. This strategic expansion aims to bolster long-term air freight capacity between Asia and Europe, catering to the growing demand for specialized and time-sensitive cargo transportation. The service will utilize the airline's Boeing 777-200F cargo aircraft.
Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) is a strategic gateway in MSC Air Cargo's global network and a vital hub for international trade. Shanghai acts as a crucial link, connecting Asian markets with Europe and other regions, particularly important for specialized goods requiring rapid delivery.
Jannie Davel, chief executive officer of MSC Air Cargo, highlighted the significance of the Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) - PVG route launch. He stated, "This is an important step in our strategy to expand the long-haul network between Europe and Asia. The route demonstrates our commitment to providing stable transport capacity, reliable operations, and maintaining high service standards on critical trade corridors."

The expansion is supported by an growing fleet. In January, MSC Air Cargo received its second new Boeing 777-200F, registered in Italy under the company's European air operator certificate (AOC). Beyond these two 777-200F aircraft under its European AOC, the company also operates four 777Fs through a long-term wet lease (ACMI) contract with Atlas Air.
To further strengthen its presence in Asia, MSC Air Cargo has forged strategic partnerships. In 2025, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SF Express, aiming to enhance connectivity and operational capacity on key Asia-Europe routes. Additionally, an MoU was signed with Shanghai Airport Logistics Development Company (AVINEX) to develop PVG into a core hub within MSC Air Cargo's Asia-Pacific network.
Looking ahead, MSC Air Cargo plans to continue developing its operational capabilities and specialized products. These services will cater to sectors such as automotive, high-tech, perishables, aerospace, and industries requiring urgent transportation.
