PNJ appoints new chief executive officer

Phan Quoc Cong, born in 1970, has been appointed chief executive officer of PNJ, replacing Le Tri Thong who recently resigned after 8 years in the role.

Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint Stock Company (PNJ) announced the transition of its chief executive officer position on the evening of 27/2. The decision will take effect from 3/4.

Le Tri Thong resigned "due to personal aspirations and a succession plan prepared by the board of directors." After stepping down as chief executive officer, he will retain his position as vice chairman of the board of directors to focus on long-term strategic planning.

According to PNJ, Le Tri Thong plans to develop his career as a financial investor and business redeveloper, wishing to dedicate time to pursuing new business opportunities. Thong discussed this direction with the board of directors since 2024, and the company proactively developed a thorough transition plan to ensure stable operations.

His successor is Phan Quoc Cong, who has over 30 years of experience in corporate governance and management. He holds a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree and has held management positions at various entities such as Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group, Electrolux Vietnam, SmithKline Beecham, and Nestle Vietnam.

From 2015 to the present, Cong shifted his focus to investing in and developing technology application businesses, serving as chairman of the board of directors, co-founder, or board member at Saigon Food, Wakamono, Moonshot Biotech, and One Solution Tech. He also previously served as a board member at PNJ, The Gioi Di Dong, and Mekong Capital.

According to PNJ, the company chose this time for the chief executive officer transition, having navigated a volatile period for the industry with positive business results. Last year, the company reported profits exceeding 2,800 billion dong, its highest ever.

"The transition will officially take place at the beginning of Quarter II, after the peak business season concludes, to ensure the completion of Quarter I objectives and maintain stability across the entire system," PNJ's press release stated on the evening of 27/2.
