OAG, an aviation data and analytics company, recently unveiled its "Megahubs 2025" ranking of the world's 50 most connected airports. This marks the tenth year the company has released this ranking.
The research unit utilized data from hundreds of the world's largest airports between 1/9/2024 and 31/8/2025. To select the top 50, they extracted data on 1/8/2025, identified as global aviation's "busiest day" within that period.
After two consecutive years of absence, Tan Son Nhat has re-entered OAG's ranking at position 45. According to OAG's calculations, the Ho Chi Minh City airport offers 8,348 valid connecting options (connections) to 94 destinations worldwide. The research unit also stated that Vietnam Airlines holds the largest market share at this airport, with 37%.
According to industry experts, a higher "connections" index reflects an airport's scale, connectivity, and transit capabilities. In 2024, the Ho Chi Minh City airport was ranked 54th.
Previously, the most recent year Tan Son Nhat appeared in OAG's top 50 Megahubs was 2022, holding the 41st position. Among commercially operational airports in Vietnam, Tan Son Nhat is capable of serving nearly 50 million passengers annually once Terminal 3 becomes operational from Q2/2025. Currently, Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) manages and operates this airport.

Globally, in 2025, London Heathrow (United Kingdom) continues to be the best-connected airport for the third consecutive year. Heathrow also ranks as Europe's busiest airport by total seat capacity.
Following London Heathrow are Istanbul (Turkey) and Amsterdam (Netherlands). While these two airports boast a higher number of connecting options than Heathrow, OAG also considers factors like reasonable connection times, actual flight distances, and passenger journey feasibility.
In Southeast Asia, Kuala Lumpur Airport is the most connected, also ranking 4th globally. Changi (Singapore) is 11th, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (Thailand) is 12th. Manila Ninoy Aquino (Philippines) and Jakarta Soekarno (Indonesia) are 21st and 23rd, respectively.
