Thanh Nam group expands investment, exports coffee

Thanh Nam's leadership confirms the completion of a 236 billion dong investment, securing a controlling stake in Vietnam Coffee Export Joint Stock Company (Via Coffee).

Thanh Nam Group announced a major investment into Vietnam Coffee Export Joint Stock Company (Via Coffee) at its General Shareholders' Meeting on the morning of 24/4, signifying a strategic expansion into the coffee export sector. This move diversifies the group's business interests, marking a significant shift in its multi-industry development strategy beyond its core sectors of steel, solar energy, real estate, and hospitality.

On 3/3, Thanh Nam finalized the share transfer, acquiring a 98,34% stake in Via Coffee. A group representative stated, "This acquisition is a long-term strategic move, enhancing our competitive edge and allowing us to penetrate deeper into Vietnam's promising export agricultural product value chain."

According to the representative, Via Coffee's distinct strategy involves the simultaneous development of both premium Robusta and Arabica coffee lines. This approach enables the brand to cater to diverse customer segments and enhances its penetration into international markets.

Beyond exporting green coffee beans, Thanh Nam aims to establish the Via Coffee brand for deeply processed products, including roasted, ground, and instant coffee. The company's leadership views this as a strategy to enhance product value and elevate Vietnamese coffee's standing in the global market.

Despite its recent market entry, Via Coffee has demonstrated positive momentum, partnering with demanding markets such as the US, Japan, Germany, Italy, Russia, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Mexico, and Algeria. Via Coffee currently operates three branches in Dak Lak, Quang Tri, and Son La, which are key raw material regions. The company also plans to establish an additional factory in Quoc Oai (Hanoi) to further enhance its production and logistics network.

Thanh Nam's journey began in 2004, focusing on stainless steel as its primary product in the steel sector. From the outset, the company consistently adapted and innovated to maintain a competitive edge. By 2010, its cutting and processing center became operational, enhancing production capacity and strengthening the supply chain.

Building on this foundation, Thanh Nam gradually expanded its product portfolio to include cold-rolled steel, galvanized steel, electroplated steel, and pickled hot-rolled steel, which are important pillars of the group's long-term development strategy.

Entering a new development phase in 2020, Thanh Nam invested in the energy sector with solar power projects in Phu Yen (now part of Dak Lak). This significant milestone established energy as a key sector, complementing steel within the group's business structure.

At the 2023 General Shareholders' Meeting, the Board of Directors announced a transition to a holding company model, focusing on multi-industry development with real estate and agricultural products as two key expansion areas. This marked the gradual completion of Thanh Nam's ecosystem with strategic components.

The group is currently operating one of its two resort real estate projects: Kien Hotel in Da Nang. The other, Vuon Dao in Ha Long, is undergoing renovation. These projects contribute to enhancing brand value and diversifying revenue streams.

Over two decades, Thanh Nam has built a multi-pillar ecosystem encompassing steel, solar energy, real estate, hospitality, and agricultural products. This multi-industry strategy diversifies risk and creates value synergy across sectors, optimizing capital efficiency and management capabilities.

The group's representative added, "Expanding into the coffee sector reflects a long-term vision and flexible transformation mindset, not just an investment. Amidst a constantly fluctuating market, our selective development strategy, anchored by core competitive advantages, is building a strong foundation for future advancements."
