Marco John Gouveia, chief executive officer of the Cummins DKSH joint venture in Southeast Asia (established by Cummins and DKSH), recently shared insights into the company's vision, growth strategies, technological innovations, and the challenges and opportunities in the Southeast Asian market. In Vietnam, the joint venture operates through Cummins DKSH Company Limited, an authorized Cummins distributor.
Gouveia emphasized the goal of establishing Cummins DKSH as a premier energy solutions partner in Southeast Asia, with Vietnam at the core of this strategy. "With our high-performance engine products and power systems, we strive to provide continuous operation and peace of mind for businesses," he stated. Vietnam stands out as one of the region's fastest-growing markets, experiencing increased demand for engine solutions, power generation, and aftermarket services. This surge is driven by expanding manufacturing, infrastructure development, and the proliferation of data centers.

He highlighted that the combination of Cummins' technological capabilities and DKSH's market development expertise allows the company to offer high-quality products and comprehensive solutions. These include a responsive consulting team, readily available spare parts, and technical solutions tailored to Vietnam's specific development needs. As Vietnam accelerates its digital and industrial transformation, Cummins DKSH's objective is clear: to become the trusted partner of choice for customers requiring the highest levels of continuous operation.
For Vietnam, Cummins DKSH's growth strategy is built on three main pillars. "First, we are strengthening our position in the backup power segment for data centers," Gouveia explained. "We are expanding our technical and service capabilities to ensure continuous operations for operators, from hyperscale groups (large-scale, scalable data centers) and colocation providers (units that lease space, racks, power, and cooling infrastructure in data centers) to enterprise customers."
"Second, we are expanding our original equipment manufacturer (OEM) engine segment by enhancing collaboration with domestic manufacturers in construction, industry, marine, and agriculture," he added. "The third pillar involves broadening our aftermarket service coverage," Gouveia continued. "The company invests in service capabilities and technical expertise, expanding its mobile technician team, ensuring a constant supply of spare parts, and leveraging digital tools to improve support efficiency. These efforts shorten response times, enhance reliability, and guarantee long-term operational performance for equipment throughout its lifespan."

Innovation at Cummins DKSH extends beyond products to enhancing customer experience. "We are implementing digitalization solutions to improve service quality, from remote diagnostics to predictive maintenance analytics," Gouveia noted. "These capabilities reduce downtime, extend equipment lifespan, and empower customers to be more proactive in their operations."
At the product level, the company is introducing new Cummins technologies to the Vietnamese market, ranging from control systems to high-performance engine platforms. The joint venture model expedites the deployment of global solutions into practical applications. Furthermore, combining Cummins' research and development (R&D) capabilities with DKSH's market insights enables the provision of technological solutions tailored to Vietnam's operating conditions.
While Vietnam's rapid growth presents many opportunities, it also brings challenges, including increasing market competition. "We differentiate ourselves by focusing on long-term value, encompassing the quality and reliability of Cummins products, coupled with service capabilities that support customers throughout their operations, aiming to optimize total cost of ownership," Gouveia observed. He also highlighted evolving regulatory and environmental requirements, stating that Cummins DKSH's current and upcoming technologies are developed to meet these standards.
Managing supply chain pressures is another key factor. "The company is strengthening regional inventory systems and adjusting distribution operations to minimize disruptions," Gouveia added. "Furthermore, the shortage of skilled technical personnel remains a challenge. We invest in training technicians, engineers, and service teams to enhance local capabilities." Through these activities, the company aims to maintain stable product and service delivery, meeting the needs of customers in Vietnam.

"We will provide fast, consistent, and professional aftermarket services, while investing in our personnel and modern equipment and technical tools. Moving forward, customers and partners can expect a closer collaborative relationship with us, featuring faster response capabilities, deeper expertise, and a commitment to ensuring their operations run stably." He concluded by expressing the company's aspiration to continue partnering with Vietnam on its journey to become a regional hub for data centers, advanced manufacturing, and innovation.
