Hanoi Law University (HLU) has announced significant adjustments to its 2026 admissions, most notably increasing the required IELTS score for maximum English points and planning to enroll more students. This year, HLU aims to admit 2,850 students, an increase of 200 compared to last year. The university will continue to use its three established admission methods: direct admission, evaluation based on high school graduation exam results, and academic transcript review.
One significant adjustment from last year is the revised foreign language certificate conversion table. Specifically, applicants with an IELTS score of 5,5 will now have their English subject score converted to 8 points, rather than the previous 9 points. To achieve the full 10 points for English, applicants must now present an IELTS score of 7,5, up from the 6,5 required previously.

Another new policy introduced this year is the awarding of incentive points to applicants holding foreign language or international certificates. This marks a shift from the previous system, which only recognized students who won awards in provincial-level competitions or higher. Students with certificates such as: SAT, ACT, IELTS Academic, TOEFL ITP, TOEFL iBT, or other foreign language certificates, can receive a maximum of 1,5 additional points. However, applicants who have already used a foreign language certificate for score conversion cannot receive additional incentive points.
