On 15/12, the Department of Education and Training announced its proposal to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee regarding the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday schedule. Under this plan, schools would grant students a break from 12-22/2/2026, which corresponds to the 25th day of the twelfth lunar month through the 6th day of the first lunar month. This schedule offers students 11 consecutive days off.
While this plan aligns with previous expectations, a new provision allows principals the flexibility to grant students up to 14 days off, including Saturdays and Sundays. Principals can grant this extension, provided educational quality and progress are maintained.

The Ministry of Education and Training regulations stipulate that provinces and cities can independently manage their school year plans. However, they must ensure a minimum of 35 weeks of actual instruction. Specifically, the first semester is to conclude before 18/1/2026, and the second semester before 31/5.
To date, approximately 5 localities have released their 2026 Tet holiday schedules for students, with most offering 11 to 13 days off. Hanoi, in contrast, has capped its holiday at 9 days.
