The incident occurred on 23/3 at Sri Siddhartha Medical College in Karnataka state. Professor Abdul Rahman Shariff, 50, a microbiology lecturer, brought one box of chocolates to class, distributed them to all students, and then stood at the podium to use a microphone to declare his love for a 19-year-old female student.
“I could not control my great love and wanted to confess my feelings to this important girl,” he stated, according to a video circulating on social media. He then expressed "I love you" to the student, claiming she had also shown affection for him in the past.

The student immediately reacted strongly, denying his claims and demanding to meet the principal to clarify the matter. When questioned, Professor Shariff only said he would "discuss it later" before leaving the classroom.
As the incident spread, many students became upset, arguing that the lecturer had crossed ethical boundaries between teacher and student. A group of students pursued him across the campus.
The situation turned chaotic as several female students hit the professor with sandals, while others shouted and chased him. Abdul Rahman Shariff was further assaulted as he reached his oto, attempting to flee the scene.
The college principal suspended Professor Shariff from teaching and filed a complaint with the police. Abdul Rahman Shariff was later charged with sexual harassment, indecent behavior, and insulting human dignity.
The incident is being actively discussed in India, not only due to the accusations against the lecturer but also because of the students' violent response. It also raises questions about student protection mechanisms and ethical standards within medical schools.
