The Ministry of Education and Training leadership signed the decision to appoint Mr. Hung on 11/5, for a term of 5 years. Previously, Associate Professor Dr. Bui Quang Hung served as the acting deputy director of UEH, concurrently holding the position of director of the Vinh Long campus.

Mr. Hung graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting and auditing from the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City in 2000. He earned a master's degree from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT, Thailand) in 2003 and a master's degree in finance from ESCP-EAP European School of Management (France) in 2004. In 2019, he defended his doctoral thesis in accounting at UEH.
Throughout his career at UEH, Mr. Hung held various positions, starting as a lecturer before becoming head of the finance-accounting department, chief accountant, head of the human resources department, and deputy director of the Institute of Innovation. He was appointed deputy rector of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City in 2020, and then deputy director when the institution transitioned to a university in 2023.
UEH is one of 13 universities in Vietnam. It is a leading institution for business, management, and law programs in the South and nationwide, serving approximately 40,000 students. The first director of UEH was Professor Su Dinh Thanh.
According to the QS Asia University Rankings 2026, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City ranks 318th, leading among Vietnamese universities. The university aims to be among the top 250 in Asia by 2030.
