On the morning of 27/4, the university announced it would review and incorporate student feedback to evaluate and refine its regulations, aiming to better suit real-world needs and enhance educational quality.
Three days prior, students at Vietnam National University of Agriculture reacted negatively to a university requirement that mandated participation in at least one extracurricular club for a minimum of two years, applicable to K69 (second-year students) and subsequent cohorts.
On its fanpage, the university's inter-union and inter-association stated this was one of the conditions for graduation consideration. Related posts subsequently received thousands of "angry" reactions.
Students argued that participation in extracurricular activities should be based on passion, interest, and voluntary spirit. Furthermore, they found the requirement costly, involving contributions to event funds, and difficult to manage alongside internship schedules or practical experience opportunities.
Additionally, some students aiming to graduate in 3,5 years feared violating the regulation and consequently not being considered for graduation.
Giang Trung Khoa, Head of Student Affairs, told VnExpress that the university's policy aimed to innovate education, fostering comprehensive student development. This included soft skills, scientific research capabilities, entrepreneurial spirit, teamwork skills, and adaptability to the labor market. He clarified that the university did not impose penalties for non-compliance, so "there was no way" students would be denied graduation consideration.
Established in 1956, Vietnam National University of Agriculture enrolls approximately 8,000 students annually. In addition to traditional disciplines, the university also offers training in technology and engineering fields.
