5 exercises to relax and reduce eye strain

Simple exercises such as near-far gazing, eye massage, side-to-side eye movements, or focusing on the nose tip can help alleviate eye strain and improve flexibility.

Gazing at the nose tip

This yoga exercise, also known as Nasikagra Drishti, involves fixing your gaze on the tip of your nose to enhance concentration and relax your eyes. Sit comfortably and focus on your nose tip for 5-10 seconds. Then, shift your gaze to a distant object for a few seconds. Repeat this sequence 5-10 times.

Circular eye massage

Massage can alleviate eye strain and improve blood circulation. Close your eyes and gently rub your eyelids with your fingertips in small circular motions. Avoid pressing too hard. This offers a quick way to relax your eyes after prolonged screen time.

Side-to-side gazing

This exercise helps stretch and relax eye muscles. Sit upright, look straight ahead, then slowly move your eyes to the left, and then to the right, keeping your head still. Repeat this 5-10 times.

Flame gazing (Trataka)

This yoga technique can strengthen eyesight and improve concentration. Sit in a dark room, place a candle at eye level, and gaze at the flame without blinking for as long as possible. When your eyes water, close them and visualize the flame. This exercise benefits not only your eyes but also your mind.

Near-far gazing

This exercise strengthens eye muscles and increases flexibility. Hold a small object, such as a pen, at arm's length. Gaze at it for a few seconds, then shift your focus to a distant object (like something outside a window). Repeat for 2-3 minutes.
