Cryolipolysis is a technology that uses controlled cold temperatures to selectively target subcutaneous fat cells, especially in "stubborn" areas like the upper arms, abdomen, hips, and thighs. Fat in these areas is often difficult to reduce through diet and exercise.
Fat cells are more sensitive to cold temperatures than surrounding tissues. This sensitivity leads to damage and self-destruction. Over time, macrophages engulf and eliminate these cells, gradually reducing fat volume.
Cryolipolysis is a non-invasive procedure, requiring no anesthesia or sedatives, which helps limit infection risk and leaves no scars. The procedure is relatively quick, and patients do not need hospitalization or recovery time, allowing them to resume light activities and work immediately afterward.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), some cryolipolysis devices are now approved for use on the upper arms, in addition to areas like: the abdomen, hips, and thighs. Cryolipolysis can reduce subcutaneous fat in the treated area by an average of 10-25% after each session. However, results vary depending on individual body type and fat volume.
Cryolipolysis is most effective for individuals with stable weight who have localized excess fat in their upper arms, provided their skin maintains good elasticity. If large upper arms are due to muscle development, significant loose skin after weight loss, or obesity, cryolipolysis typically does not yield expected results.
This technology only targets subcutaneous fat in the treated area; it does not reduce visceral fat. Patients must combine the treatment with a scientific diet and physical exercise to manage their weight. If a patient gains weight afterward, the remaining fat cells can still enlarge, causing fat to accumulate in the upper arm area again.
You should visit a medical facility with standard-compliant equipment and doctors trained in cryolipolysis for an examination. They will assess your fat volume, skin elasticity, overall health, and aesthetic goals. If you are a suitable candidate, the doctor will recommend an appropriate upper arm fat reduction method.
