Following a tragic canoe capsize off Phu Quoc on 11/7, which claimed the lives of 15 Indian tourists and injured many others, Cho Ray Hospital initiated an emergency response. Medical professionals already stationed at Phu Quoc Hospital were immediately redeployed to Mat Troi Phu Quoc Hospital to provide urgent care. Simultaneously, specialists in resuscitation, interventional cardiology, and neuro-internal medicine conducted online consultations to formulate comprehensive treatment plans.
The hospital also collaborated with Kien Giang Hospital to ensure a ready supply of blood and medical materials. Currently, two severely injured victims remain under intensive care at Mat Troi Phu Quoc Hospital. One male patient, born in 1987, is conscious, communicative, and hemodynamically stable, though he still requires respiratory support via nasal cannula oxygen.
The other patient, an unidentified male estimated to be 45-50 years old, was admitted in a comatose state with hypotension, necessitating intubation and mechanical ventilation. Examinations revealed a minor subarachnoid hemorrhage, fractured ribs two to six on the left side, pulmonary contusion, and suspected coronary and myocardial injury from the trauma. Additionally, the patient presented with blood sugar and electrolyte disturbances, indicating a severe prognosis and requiring ongoing intensive resuscitation.

The accident occurred on the afternoon of 11/7, when a canoe carrying Indian tourists capsized near Hon May Rut Ngoai, in the Phu Quoc special economic zone. This incident resulted in the deaths of 15 Indian tourists, with 21 individuals rescued.
Mat Troi Phu Quoc Hospital received 23 victims; six had died prior to arrival. The hospital treated 17 individuals, including 15 cases for health monitoring and two critical cases requiring intensive resuscitation. To date, four patients in stable condition have been discharged.
Following the accident, the Prime Minister directed relevant ministries, sectors, and An Giang province to urgently provide medical aid to the injured, investigate the incident's cause, and coordinate with the Indian Embassy to ensure citizen protection and support for the victims' families.
