On the afternoon of 17/7, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health presented the appointment decision for Dr. Trieu to his new role for a five-year term, effective from 16/7. Before this assignment, Dr. Trieu served as deputy director of the former Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Department of Health, and later as deputy director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health following the merger.
During the ceremony, Dr. Trieu pledged to work with the hospital's leadership and staff to build a professional healthcare environment, focusing on a patient-centric approach, enhancing professional quality, medical ethics, and service spirit.
According to Tang Chi Thuong, director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, this assignment and appointment aim to strengthen the leadership personnel for Ba Ria General Hospital and reinforce management resources for hospitals playing a pivotal role in the city's areas following the consolidation.
“Despite facing many challenges and not yet building the trust expected by residents in the area, Ba Ria General Hospital is now poised for development, benefiting from the city's invested interest and professional support from tertiary hospitals,” stated the head of the city's health sector.
Seven tertiary hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City have signed agreements to provide comprehensive support to Ba Ria General Hospital. Among them, Children's Hospital one will collaborate on quality management and establish a modern, patient-centric management system.

The Department of Health expects Dr. Trieu, along with the board of directors and hospital staff, to innovate management methods, effectively leverage support from tertiary hospitals, and enhance the quality of medical examination and treatment, thereby improving the patient experience and reinforcing public trust.
On the same day, Dr. Duong Thanh, former director of Ba Ria General Hospital, was assigned and appointed as deputy director of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Eye Hospital. His term is also five years, effective from 16/7.
Ba Ria General Hospital currently has a capacity of 900 beds, 35 departments, and over 200 doctors and staff. Following the merger, the hospital is now under Ho Chi Minh City's administration and is set to develop into a specialized medical cluster in the eastern part of the city. Within Ho Chi Minh City's multi-polar, multi-tiered, and multi-center healthcare system development model, the hospital is designated as a key general hospital, catering to the healthcare needs of local residents and helping to reduce the overload on tertiary hospitals in the central area.
Previously, Ba Ria General Hospital encountered some noteworthy issues in its operations. In 10/2025 and 6/2026, two patients died at the hospital, prompting complaints and requests for clarification from their families. A comprehensive inspection by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health for the period from 1/1/2024 to 30/9/2025 also identified several shortcomings in financial management, personnel organization, medical examination and treatment, pharmacy, and bidding procedures.
