Unsweetened black coffee is a safe beverage for healthy individuals, but it cannot replace medical therapies for blood sugar, blood fat, or liver enzymes. This is a common misconception, as coffee, while offering some benefits, is not a treatment for these conditions.
When it comes to sugar metabolism, large-scale, long-term monitoring data shows that individuals who regularly drink coffee tend to have a lower incidence of type 2 diabetes. However, this represents a statistical correlation, not a direct causal relationship, meaning coffee consumption does not guarantee disease prevention. Furthermore, short-term caffeine intake can temporarily decrease insulin sensitivity, leading to a slight increase in post-meal blood sugar in some cases. Therefore, patients should not mistakenly believe that drinking coffee will immediately stabilize blood sugar levels.
Regarding blood fat levels, the preparation method is crucial. Coffee that is boiled or not passed through a filter contains high levels of cafestol and kahweol. These compounds are known to increase total cholesterol and ldl-cholesterol. Conversely, using a paper filter effectively retains most of these substances, thereby limiting their negative impact on blood fat levels.

If you do not currently drink coffee, it is not necessary to start solely with the expectation of improving biochemical indicators.
