Indian family holds horse procession to welcome first baby girl in 200 years

After nearly two centuries and multiple generations without a daughter, a family in India recently celebrated the birth of a baby girl with a grand procession.

The Dahiphale family in Beed district, Maharashtra, recently experienced immense joy with the birth of a baby girl named Gargi. Remarkably, she is the first girl born into their lineage in nearly 200 years, spanning five generations, according to NDTV. Upon the mother and daughter's discharge from the hospital, the family organized a vibrant procession featuring a flower-decorated chariot, a drum band, and traditional dancers to welcome them home with overwhelming happiness.

Limbaji Dahifale, Gargi's grandfather, could not contain his emotion when speaking about the event. He stated that welcoming a baby girl into the family is an enormous blessing. "Having a daughter in the family is a great fortune. For many years, we have longed for a daughter, and today, that wish has finally come true," India Today quoted Limbaji as saying.

Surekha, Gargi's grandmother, shared that the family had unanimously agreed to organize the most elaborate welcoming ceremony while still at the hospital. She enthusiastically compared her granddaughter's arrival to the descent of a "goddess of luck," bringing prosperity and peace to the family.

Gargi's father also expressed his happiness, sharing that while many still cling to the mindset of wanting sons, the feeling of having a daughter brings a completely different kind of joy. He promised to always care for and cherish his daughter like a precious flower.

This grand procession attracted many local residents who came to share in the family's joy. Local social activist Anant Ingle highly praised the Dahiphale family's actions. In a social context where some still hold prejudices against women, the family's public organization of a major celebration for the birth of a baby girl has become a positive role model, spreading a warm message about gender equality.
