Responding recently to MyCheck, a fact-checking organization under the Bernama news agency, KKM stated that this dangerous trend is widely appearing in short videos. Participants apply strong force to the neck, shoulder, or nape area, causing the individual to pass out for a few seconds before regaining consciousness in a dazed state. While many therapy centers advertise this as a traditional medical method to reset the brain and release negative energy, KKM asserts that this therapy completely lacks scientific basis.

The physical force applied to the neck causes victims to faint due to a sudden lack of oxygen to the brain, rather than inducing natural sleep. The health agency emphasizes that this procedure, which interferes with cerebral blood circulation, causes a range of severe complications: sudden fainting, stroke, carotid artery damage, arrhythmia, permanent brain damage, seizures, and death. Misleading the public by claiming that fainting is a deep sleep gravely violates medical ethics concerning the principles of "do no harm" and "the right to information."
Refuting the idea that the body feels refreshed after waking up, Malaysia's Public Health platform (PHM) explains that this is merely a temporary survival response. When the brain is deprived of oxygen, the body immediately activates an emergency system, releasing a surge of hormones such as adrenaline, dopamine, and endorphins. This chemical burst creates a temporary feeling of euphoria, similar to the relief people feel when they can breathe again after nearly drowning. In reality, the victim has just experienced an extremely dangerous near-death situation.
PHM experts affirm that this act is not a medical treatment procedure. The brain does not store oxygen, so blood must circulate continuously. This self-initiated method can easily cause sudden cardiac arrest, directly threatening the lives of individuals with underlying heart conditions. KKM declares that the "6-second sleep" therapy falls outside the scope of the Traditional and Complementary Medicine Act 2016, and advises the public to seek services only from reputable medical professionals.
