Master, Doctor Ho Van Huu, from the Ear, Nose, and Throat Center, explained that the cold year-end weather creates conditions for viruses and bacteria to thrive, causing pharyngitis and rhinosinusitis. An abscess is an accumulation of pus within body tissues, forming due to a bacterial infection. Ear, nose, and throat abscesses, which develop from pharyngitis, rhinosinusitis, tonsillitis, or otitis media, can spread to adjacent tissues and organs. Complications include sepsis, airway obstruction, and diffuse cellulitis.
Doctors advise adopting a healthy lifestyle, exercising regularly, and limiting prolonged time in enclosed rooms. Enclosed environments can increase bacterial density, leading to a risk of cross-infection. Individuals experiencing high fever, swelling, pain, difficulty opening their mouth, or pain radiating to the face and neck should seek timely medical examination and treatment.
