Adenoids and tonsils are lymphoid tissues, integral to the immune system, helping to identify pathogens that enter through the respiratory tract. However, when these tissues become inflamed or enlarged, they can negatively impact health rather than performing their protective role. It is important to note that not all cases of adenoid inflammation or enlargement necessitate a tonsillectomy, and the reverse is also true. Doctors carefully evaluate surgical indications based on several factors: the underlying cause of symptoms, the degree of enlargement, the frequency of recurrent inflammation, and the impact on the patient's breathing, sleep, and overall quality of life.
