Dang Khoi shared that each return to Singapore for follow-up appointments brings a different emotion for his family. For the singer, it is no longer the initial panic of racing against time, but gratitude that both his mother and mother-in-law are in stable health after years of treatment.

Looking back at a journey spanning over a decade, what he remembers is not the rushed flights or treatment protocols, but the unwavering determination of both families: "Not stopping at any door when there is still an opportunity ahead."

In 2012, Dang Khoi's mother began experiencing persistent back pain. Initially, the family thought it was just a spinal issue. However, her condition progressed rapidly, leading to the loss of 6 vertebrae and severe health deterioration. "There were many nights I dared not sleep. I feared that if I drifted off, I would wake up to find my mother gone," Dang Khoi recalled.

At that time, the singer was at the peak of his career with a packed schedule. Despite this, he decided to put his work aside to accompany his mother. Through a friend's recommendation, the family took Dang Khoi's mother to Singapore for examination at Mount Elizabeth Hospital. After an in-depth assessment, doctors diagnosed her with Multiple Myeloma, which caused severe spinal damage.

There, his mother underwent surgery to reconstruct 6 vertebrae with artificial ones, followed by chemotherapy and an autologous stem cell transplant. "Our whole family cried a lot, but they were tears of joy because, finally, my mother had a ray of hope," he recounted.

After about 7 months of treatment, her health gradually recovered. Now, over a decade later, the woman once prognosed with only 2 months to live can eat, sleep, exercise normally, and gather with her children and grandchildren.

While his mother continued her treatment and recovery, in 2016, the family faced another challenge when Thuy Anh's mother, the singer's wife, was diagnosed with cancer. By 2019, the disease had progressed and metastasized to her lungs. Immediately after receiving the results, Thuy Anh and her mother decided to travel to Singapore to seek further treatment options.

This journey occurred just as the Covid-19 pandemic erupted. Before stricter pandemic prevention regulations were enforced, the medical team at Mount Elizabeth coordinated to complete the final radiotherapy session as planned, ensuring treatment was not interrupted.

The experiences throughout the treatment process led the family to continue choosing Mount Elizabeth for subsequent follow-up appointments. Last June, Dang Khoi and his family returned to Singapore for a routine health check-up. The stable results for both his mother and mother-in-law brought him relief after many years of battling illness alongside his loved ones.

According to Dang Khoi, the most valuable aspect of accompanying his two mothers was not necessarily the treatment milestones, but the everyday moments and the family's unity.

"If there is one thing I learned on this journey, it is to never give up hope," he stated.

The singer believes that when a family member falls ill, in addition to maintaining a positive spirit, families should actively seek more information, consult professional opinions, and consider suitable treatment options. Sometimes, the decision to keep searching for another opportunity can open a new path.
