Three mistakes when cooling down that cause erectile dysfunction

Many men seeking quick relief from summer heat resort to methods like ice baths, applying toothpaste, or overusing mint solutions, unknowingly harming intimate areas and diminishing sperm quality.

Hot weather not only leads to fatigue and exhaustion but also indirectly impacts male fertility and sexual function.

According to Master, Doctor Pham Quang Khai, Department of Urology - Andrology, E Hospital, while high environmental temperatures do not immediately cause erectile dysfunction in men, certain lifestyle habits and improper cooling practices during summer are culprits affecting male sexual health.

Cooling intimate areas with folk remedies

Doctor Khai noted that the hospital has treated men for skin burns or balanitis after they self-applied various online cooling tips, such as using plant leaves, toothpaste, essential oils, or spraying alcohol and mint water on their intimate areas.

"These chemicals and improper methods can lead to frostbite, chemical irritation, infections, and swelling in the genital region", the doctor stated.

Intimacy in a cold air-conditioned room immediately after being in the sun

This is a common scenario for couples during summer. Upon entering a room from the hot outdoors, the body is often fatigued, dehydrated, and has a high heart rate.

Engaging in sexual activity immediately after turning the air conditioner to a very cold setting can cause vasoconstriction, straining the cardiovascular system. This can result in dizziness, drops in blood pressure, or spikes in blood pressure, especially for individuals with underlying health conditions.

It is advisable to rest and rehydrate for about 20-30 minutes before engaging in sexual activity.

Going commando for ventilation

Many men believe that not wearing underwear in summer helps keep the testicles cooler. While going commando can reduce feelings of stuffiness and friction, it also increases the risk of injury during movement, as skin may rub directly against the harsh material of outer clothing.

Men should opt for underwear made from stretchy, sweat-absorbent cotton, with a comfortable fit.

To maintain performance and reproductive health during hot weather, men should adhere to simple principles: stay well-hydrated, get sufficient sleep, avoid heat exposure to intimate areas, and maintain an exercise routine.
